Local Model Aircraft Clubs Offer Free Family-Friendly Events Across The US
Today, August 17, thousands of model aircraft enthusiasts across the country are celebrating the seventh annual National Model Aviation Day, an event that brings together hobbyists and members of local Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) clubs to enjoy family-friendly model aircraft flying events.
"National Model Aviation Day is a great opportunity for anyone interested in model airplanes or drones to interact with seasoned hobbyists and see why we're so passionate about flying," said Chad Budreau, Executive Director of AMA. "We hope to educate people about how to operate safely - and have a lot of fun with members of the community too!"
The free events are open to the public and are an opportunity to learn about the model aviation hobby and how to fly responsibly in the airspace. Activities vary at each event, but most include model airplane plane demonstrations, simulated flying stations, opportunities to learn how to fly, STEM activities for kids, raffles, camping and much more.
Many AMA clubs are also raising money to support the AMA Foundation, which is devoted to inspiring the young and young-at-heart to pursue model aviation. The hobby inspires creativity and advanced learning through the use of hands-on applications. The Foundation manages programs and services that educate people about model aviation and how it helps foster an interest in the scientific, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. These efforts encourage young people to explore careers in STEM that continue to be vital to our future.
