Blackhawk Aerospace Composites Now Aerospace Composites Solutions

A Matter of Semantics

Blackhawk Aerospace Composites—the Morgantown, Kentucky-based aerospace composite design and manufacturing firm—announced on 30 January 2023 that it has rebranded and changed its name to Aerospace Composites Solutions (ACS). The company’s new appellation speaks to an expanded focus on niche aerospace and defense applications resultant of a latterly ownership change.

On 01 January 2023, Blackhawk Aerospace co-founder and chairman Matt Shieman increased his ownership of Blackhawk’s composite division. In his new capacity of company president, Mr. Shieman now leads ACS, assisted by Blackhawk Aerospace co-founder Dale Griffin, who assumes the stations of director and investor.

“I am excited to work closely with the ACS team members, remaining focused on the composite products our customers depend on for business and government operations,” Mr. Shieman set forth. “Our team is expanding to meet growing demand for focused aerospace composite solution designs and production manufacturing.”

An inveterate businessman and proven leader, Shieman has made his name identifying and investing in niche companies producing unique products. Mr. Griffin—by dint of his forty-plus-years in corporate finance, investment management, and aviation business ownership—will help ensure ACS’s success by driving the company’s growth and safeguarding it against the perils of today’s volatile markets.

Under its new leadership team, ACS will remain focused on niche markets, including the development and manufacture of pods and fairings germane to Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions; and fire suppression tanks salient to aerial firefighting. The company plans, also, to expand into new business arenas, to include drone manufacturing and providing aviation parts to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
