Ted Tippin Follows In Famous Father's Flight Suit

Aaron Tippin Signs Son's Logbook Following First Solo December 15

Country music star Aaron Tippin is known in the aviation community for his support of The Commemorative Air Force's "Red, White, and Loud" tour lsat year, and as being a strong supporter of GA.

But he had the rare privilege of getting his son Ted started on his aviation adventure on December 15, the day after his 16th birthday. The younger Tippin soloed the family's J-3 cub that Sunday afternoon, the day after his 16th birthday, and Aaron Tippin was the flight instructor to sign off on his logbook for the flight.

The music industry trade publication Country Weekly reports that the event is becoming something of a tradition in the Tippin family. Aaron's father did the same thing for him when the country star turned 16. Now, Aaron has passed that tradition down to his son.

Ted had planned to solo the J-3 on his actual birthday, which was December 14, but was grounded due to bad weather. He said he and his dad had been flying four or five days a week to prepare for the milestone flight, and now that he's legal to fly solo, he hopes to be able to continue to fly at least once a week.

The family love for aviation extends to Ted's younger brother Tom and his mom Thea. And Tippin made a Stearman biplane one of the stars of his recent video "Ready to Rock."
