Vector Space Systems Plans Florida Launches

Arizona-Based Startup Will Fly 'Micro-Launcher' From Cape Canaveral

An Arizona startup company building "micro-launchers" to boost small satellites into orbit will soon announce plans to launch missions from Cape Canaveral, FL ... maybe as early as this weekend.

Florida Today reports that Vector Space Systems is planning set up a test version of its Vector-R micro-launcher at Launch Complex 46 on Saturday. The rocket will then be placed on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Space Florida says that Vector Space Systems CEO Jim Cantrell "will announce the intention of the company to use the launch facilities in the future.”

The first flight of the rocket is not planned until 2018, and each one could fly as many as six times, according to the company. They could perform in excess of 100 launches a year.

Vector also plans to launch satellites into polar orbits from Alaska, according to the report. There is a heavier "Vector-H" rocket also in development that could boost up to 300 pounds into orbit.
