Three Lost In Medevac King Air Accident

Plane Goes Down In SW Colorado

Three persons onboard an air ambulance en route to Alamosa, CO were lost, when their plane impacted mountainous terrain near the Continental Divide in southwest Colorado late Thursday.

FAA spokesman Mike Fergus told the Associated Press air traffic controllers lost contact with the Beechcraft C-90A King Air (similar to "B" model shown below) at 2320 Thursday night.

After being grounded in the morning by high winds and low-lying clouds, crews in a Black Hawk helicopter located the wreckage near Chama Friday afternoon, aided by the signal from the King Air's ELT.

A pilot, flight nurse, and paramedic were on the flight, which took off from Chinle, AZ. The plane crashed approximately 20 miles southwest of Alamosa.

The accident aircraft was registered to Scenic Aviation of Blanding, UT. The company operates an air ambulance service, Eagle Air Med Inc.

The crew was to pick up a patient in Alamosa, said Dustin Duncan of the International Association of Air Medical Services. Duncan was speaking on behalf of the company.
