Next SpaceX Mission To Deliver Inflatable Habitat To ISS

Launch Currently Scheduled For April 8

When SpaceX launches its next Dragon cargo ship to ISS, currently planned for April 8, it will carry a Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) to the station.

Once inflated, the BEAM will add an entire new room to the orbiting outpost, accordgint to the website HNGN.com

BEAM is equipped with sensors to track thermal, environmental, and radiation protection properties. It will stay docked to ISS for two years for testing. The module will be used two or three times every six months for a few hours at a time, according to the report.

Bigelow Aerospace is working with NASA to determine if a different inflatable habitat can be effective for use in missions to the Moon and Mars.

Once it arrives at the station, the BEAM habitat will be transferred to Node 3 on the station, with the inflation process planned for late May or early June.
