Beech 1900 Down In The South Florida

Four On Board Fatally Injured In The Accident

A Beech 1900 went down Wednesday in the southwestern portion of Florida's Miami-Dade County, resulting in the fatal injury of the four people on board the aircraft.

Television station WSVN reports that Miami-Dade Aviation spokesman Greg Chin said that the pilot had reported an engine failure after departure from Miami Executive Airport and was attempting to return to the airport.

The plane went down in a relatively unpopulated area of the county, and no one on the ground was injured. Witness  Hector Garcia, who was driving near the accident scene, said it looked as if the pilot might make a successful off-airport landing, but the airplane's tail hit the ground causing the main fuselage to hit hard, and "it instantly caught fire."

Another witness who would not give a name said that the plane "clipped" a telephone pole while attempting to land in a field "and just spun around and hit the fence." That witness said there were multiple explosions following the impact.

The FAA said the plane was not registered in the U.S., and its destination was the Turks and Caicos islands in the Bahamas.

Those on board have not yet been identified.
