Aero-TV: Oshkosh 2012 -- Rod Hightower On The Record

Rod Sets The Tone For Oshkosh 2012

EAA President and CEO Rod Hightower met with the aviation media on the opening day of AirVenture Monday. He expressed a great deal of enthusiasm for the show this year, saying that the campgrounds and the North 40 were "filling up," and that the grounds are in the best shape than they have been in years in the early stages of the show.

Hightower mentioned that this is the 60th annual EAA fly-in, which "has grown to become the world's largest aviation event." He outlined the week's activities, including an performance by the Steve Miller Band Monday night, and the "Tora-Tora-Tora" re-enactment of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor.

One of the themes for the week is the "Celebration of the Greatest Generation in the Air," and there will be special activities all through the week celebrating those WWII veterans. And, Hightower said he was particularly pleased that "Team RV" would be performing for the first time at AirVenture.

Hightower stressed often that one of his goals is to make AirVenture a "family friendly" event, with the addition of things like the Fort "Eco-Boost" which gives the sensation of bungee jumping while still reasonably close to the ground.

Hightower mentioned the opening of a new temporary grass runway on the grounds. His message to the media: "I'm glad you're all here. Have fun."
