CAF To Unveil Refurbished F-14A

Historic Aircraft To Be Presented At Sky Wing CAF Airsho

The High Sky Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in Midland, TX plans to unveil a refurbished Grumman F-14A Tomcat at its Sky Wing Airsho this weekend. The airframe is notable as being the first F-14A to shoot down another aircraft in combat.

On August 19, 1981,  CDR Henry ‘Hank’ Kleemann and LT David ‘DJ’ Venlet of VF-41 flew the aircraft off the USS Nimitz during the Gulf of Sidra incident. The crew shot down a Libyan SU-22 'Fitter' fighter jet during the conflict.

Warbird News reports that members of the Navy Flight Deck Veterans Group have made great progress on Fast Eagle 102 over the past several weeks, and it will be formally unveiled at the Airsho as promised.

The CAF High Sky Wing is accepting donations for the restoration of the F-14A. Check out the FMI link below.
