Airborne 02.10.23: eRace Delayed, SkyCourier Gravel Kit, 737 Firefighter Down

Also: Charles McGee Award, Boeing Slashing Jobs, UPS MD-11 Phase-Out, Hartzell Propeller

The National Aeronautic Association announced that the Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race was to be postponed from May 2023 to an as-of-yet undetermined date later in the year.

Introduced in 2021 at the 15th Annual Electric Aircraft Symposium as a one-thousand nautical-mile cross-country air race for zero-emission electric propulsion aircraft of all types, the race is intended to revive the tradition of the Pulitzer air races first held by the NAA in the early 1920s. Textron Aviation is offering a gravel kit for its new Cessna SkyCourier twin turboprop. The kit affords SkyCourier operators flexibility to operate their aircraft from the unimproved runways by which the world’s more remote locales are characterized. On 6 February, a Boeing 737-3H4 aerial tanker owned by New South Wales-based Coulson Aviation, went down in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia’s Fitzgerald River National Park while fighting multiple fires. The aircraft’s sole occupants—its two pilots—survived the harrowing accident and were transported to hospital with minor injuries. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!
