Spirit Aerosystems Lands Cessna Contract

Second Non-Boeing Deal In Two Months

It's a big deal for Wichita, KS-based Spirit Aerosystems. The Boeing spinoff has won a contract from crosstown neighbor Cessna to build the upper and lower wing tooling for the Citation Sovereign midsize bizjet.

"In a time where the industry is booming and Cessna is working at capacity, it is helpful to be able to partner with our Wichita aviation colleagues," said Ron Alberti, senior vice president for Cessna's Integrated Supply Chain.

The Wichita Eagle reports the short-term contract -- to provide tooling to hold the wing structures during assembly -- is the second non-Boeing contract Spirit has received in the past few months.

In April, Spirit told its employees the company won a bid from a major engine manufacturer -- believed to be Rolls-Royce -- to design and build engine nacelles.

With its recent purchase of BAE Systems Aerostructures in the UK, Spirit can also count on future work from the likes of Airbus and Raytheon.
