Atlantic Southeast CRJ Aborts Takeoff Due To Engine Fire

Plane Evacuated With No Injuries Reported

The local Cajun cuisine wasn't the only hot thing in Baton Rouge, LA Sunday afternoon. Things got a little hot on a Delta Air Lines regional flight, too -- a little too hot.

At approximately 1300 local time Sunday, the Canadair CRJ-200 Regional Jet operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines was evacuated at Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport due to a fire in the right engine. Airport spokesman Ronnie Pickard said all 50 passengers and four crew were evacuated within 90 seconds with no injuries reported.

The flight had just started taxiing to the runway for departure to Atlanta, GA. According to WAFB in Baton Rouge, the pilot and passengers heard a loud "pop" about three minutes into the taxi.

As the aircraft started its takeoff roll, the pilot noticed a fire indication warning for the right engine.

Delta ferried another aircraft to Baton Rouge to accommodate the passengers, and continue the flight to Atlanta.
