Belite Electronics’ New Turn Coordinator Requires No Electric Or Vacuum Gyro System
Belite Electronics has been at the forefront of developing extremely lightweight instruments for experimental and ultralight aircraft. Their newest entry into this field is from their line of Radiant instruments.
“These products were specifically designed for experimental and LSA category aircraft,” said James Wiebe, CEO of Belite Electronics. “They are smaller, lighter, more brilliant and more functional than other aircraft instruments and will provide the aircraft builder or LSA manufacturer the ability to supply more function with more simplicity and less weight and cost than competing products.”
Their newest instrument is an electric turn coordinator with features that go beyond what we are used to seeing. The unit only weighs 1.8 ounces and is thinner than a quarter, it provides a rate of turn indicator and a ‘skid ball’ that pilots are familiar with, but it’s an electronic display rather than a gyro-driven instrument. The system works on any power source from 10 to 36 volts.
Belite says their new turn coordinator utilizes a solid state gyro and accelerometer. It weighs less than 2 ounces, it attaches to any aircraft ship power system, and it allows for easy in flight calibration at the push of a button. Is designed for a standard 2.25 inch cut out and uses approximately 100 milliamps of power. It also automatically resets if the aircraft is in some unusual attitude.
Belite has created a fascinating video of their turn coordinator being used in an automobile. When you watch the video, remember that the banking airplane on a turn coordinator indicates rate of turn not bank angle. The unit is priced at $295.95.
