Flight Safety International Announces New Management

Names New Senior VP, Executive Director Of Helicopter Development

FlightSafety International has promoted David Davenport to Senior Vice President of the company, effective November 1, 2012. David Powell has joined the company as Executive Director, Helicopter Business Development.

Davenport assumes overall responsibility for FlightSafety’s Sales, Marketing, and Teammate Resources. "His leadership of these important areas demonstrates FlightSafety’s Customer focus and long-standing commitment to provide the highest quality products and service," said said Bruce Whitman, President & CEO. "It also reinforces our commitment to recognize and reward our Teammates and to provide comprehensive benefits and opportunities for advancement.”
 
David joined FlightSafety in 1996 as Assistant Manager of the West Palm Beach Learning Center and then served as Director, CAA Training, at FlightSafety Academy prior to being named Assistant Manager of the Atlanta Center.
 
He became Manager of the Savannah Center in 2005 and assumed responsibility for FlightSafety’s Gulfstream aircraft training programs. He was promoted to Regional Operations Manager in 2008 and relocated to the company’s corporate offices in New York following his promotion to Vice President in September 2012.
 
David graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1982 with a degree in business management and then served in the Air Training Command.

Powell joined FlightSafety after completing a successful 25 year career with Sikorsky Aircraft serving most recently as Vice President Sales for the Americas. His previous executive assignments at Sikorsky included Vice President Sales for Asia based in Singapore and Malaysia, senior positions in aircraft program management, and Director of helicopter sales and strategic business development in Europe. His main responsibilities are to grow FlightSafety’s helicopter training through the identification and development of new business opportunities around the world. This includes planning and establishing new locations and optimizing the company’s current helicopter training programs and fleet of simulators according to the needs of FlightSafety’s Customers and the helicopter manufacturers it serves and supports.

Powell graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a degree in Engineering. After graduation he continued his professional development earning his “Navy Wings of Gold” at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. Dave’s assignments included flying the Navy’s H-53 Super Stallion helicopter with the Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 14 (HM-14) in Norfolk, Virginia. He was also an engineering test pilot assigned to Sikorsky Aircraft flying the Sikorsky Black Hawk, Seahawk, C/MH-53E and S-76 D aircraft. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of active duty and naval reserve service with the rank of Navy Commander.
