Haynes To Speak At GWBAA Safety Standdown

UAL 232 Captain Will Keynote May 7 Event

The Greater Washington Business Aviation Association announced Tuesday the group will host a well-known and much-lauded pilot during its Safety Standdown next month.

Former UAL Captain Alfred C. Haynes will be the keynote speaker at the May 7, 2009 Safety Standdown at the NTSB Training Academy in Ashburn, VA.

The captain of United Airlines Flight 232, Haynes is one of the most in-demand speakers today. It was twenty years ago that Captain Haynes and his crew, against all odds, crash landed a United DC-10 in Sioux City, IA with no hydraulics.

Despite the fiery crash landing, 184 people survived the accident.

"Captain Haynes' presentation is not just for pilots, but for flight attendants, maintenance personal, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, emergency crews and others," the GWBAA writes. "His 75-minute presentation will captivate, inspire and motive you."

The cost of the Safety Standdown is $50 and includes a continental breakfast, lunch (sponsored by Bombardier) and breakout sessions.
