Cessna: XM Weather Now Standard

1,000 Pilots Trained on G1000, Russian Certification Granted

Cessna wasn't just at AOPA Expo to crow about its deliveries -- the 6,000th single engine piston and 1,500th Caravan -- or to fill us in on Citation Mustang progress, all of which we reported elsewhere. The company had a number of other announcements, which are of specific interest to narrow swathes of Cessna stakeholders.

"We’ve trained more than 1,000 customers on the new Garmin G1000 avionics suite, and we’ve added XM WX Satellite Weather in all NAV III-equipped airplanes," Chairman, President and CEO Jack Pelton said in a company press release.

Cessna photographs showed the 1,000th pilot, Jim Seaman (below), training on the G1000 panel and receiving his completion certificate.

"We are proud to see these new chapters added to the 78-year history of Cessna’s single engine airplanes, and we see an exciting future for Cessna in this sector," Pelton said.

Cessna has manufactured the most single engine piston airplanes in history: over 165,000.

An important component of Cessna's shipments are exports, and exports depend, of course, on type certification in the receiving jurisdiction. A team of Cessna and Russian officials recently signed the certifications for the entire single-engine line (above).
