Mayors Argue Case For GA... With The President

Mayors To Outline Benefits of GA to Small Towns and Local Economies

This ought to be an interesting week for General Aviation... especially come this Wednesday, May 6th at 1130 EST. At that time, a number of Mayors and county executives from across the country hold a conference call with reporters to announce the release of a letter to President Barack Obama communicating the crucial importance that small aircraft - also known as general aviation - provide to small towns and local economies across the country.

Nearly 70 Mayors from around the country have signed the letter.

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer will also renew his call to invite the President to Wichita to witness firsthand the toll that the recent economic downturn has taken locally in terms of massive lay-offs, as well as the ripple effect that this downturn has had on Wichita and the over 5,000 communities around the country that depend on general aviation, many of which have little or no commercial air service.

Participants include:

  • Mayor Carl Brewer, Wichita, KS
  • Mayor Steve Van Oort, Ankeny, IA
  • Mayor Fred Bott, Devils Lake, ND
  • Mayor Rick Fernau, Show Low, AZ
