Aero-News Alert: Medical Helo Down In Northeast Florida

Three People On Board Enroute To Gainesville To Harvest Organs For Transplant

A medical helicopter en route from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, to the University of Florida in Gainesville on Monday has gone down with three people on board. All were reportedly fatally injured in the accident.

The Bell 206 (similar aircraft pictured), which according to FAA records is owned by SK Jets in St. Augustine, FL, was on a mission to harvest organs for transplant from UF. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the helo went down in the early morning hours shortly before 0600 EDT in a densely wooded area about 12 miles northeast of Palatka, FL.

Multiple media sources indicate that Mayo Clinic issued a statement saying the helicopter "did not arrive" at UF. Two employees from Mayo Clinic and a pilot were on board the aircraft. The statement from Mayo indicated the names of its employees were being withheld pending notification of relatives.
