St. Louis Cardinals Get Pizza Delivery To Charter Airplane

Aircraft Was Grounded Tuesday Night Prior To Flight To Boston

The St. Louis Cardinals baseball team was late getting to Boston for the final game of the World Series ... but just because they were stranded on the tarmac in an airplane with mechanical difficulties didn't mean they had to go hungry.

The Delta charter plane was delayed by about 7 hours, and the team, their families, and staff were in a position experienced by so many others, unable to get off but unable to fly either.

While they waited, somebody got the bright idea to order pizza. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, third baseman David Freese ... a spokesman for a local pizza place called Imos ... had tweeted that the pizzeria was going to deliver pies to the plane.

But it turned out that it was Domino's that eventually delivered 24 pies to the stranded Redbirds. Domino's initially would not admit to the delivery, but later said it had brought two dozen pizzas ordered by a woman to the Delta entrance at Lambert International Airport's main terminal.

The food was delivered to the airplane about 6:45 local time, according to the report. The plane took off about 8:00 pm.

The pizza didn't help. In case you hadn't heard ... Boston won the World Series.
