SSL Wins Contract To Provide Multi-Mission Satellite To Embratel Star One

No Firm Launch Date Set For Newest Member Of The Constellation

Maxar Technologies has announced that SSL recently signed a contract to provide a powerful multi-mission communications satellite called Star One D2 to Embratel Star One. The satellite, will improve access to high quality entertainment and information services for consumers and businesses in Latin America, and expands broadband coverage to new regions, helping to provide internet access to underserved populations. It also provides an updated X-band payload for government use.

"Star One D2 is the third satellite we will provide to Embratel Star One," said Dario Zamarian, group president at SSL. "We believe there is no better endorsement of our capabilities than return customers and we look forward to again working together as a team to build this powerful and highly advanced satellite."

Star One D2 is equipped with C-, Ku-, Ka- and X-band payloads for high-speed telecommunications, television broadcast and fast broadband in South America, Mexico, Central America, and parts of the Atlantic Ocean. It is designed to provide service for 15 years or longer and is based on the highly reliable SSL 1300 platform, which has the capability to support a broad range of applications and technology advances.

"This high capacity satellite will enable us to provide the world's most advanced communications services to our customers who will benefit from faster internet and more entertainment choices," said Gustavo Silbert, president of Embratel Star One. "With two SSL-built satellites currently providing service on orbit, we are pleased to once again contract with the team that we have come to know for a satellite that will help us update our coverage in important regions."

SSL built the Star One D1 satellite, which was launched in 2016 and is the first satellite in Embratel Star One's fourth generation family of satellites. The company also built Star One C4, which was launched in 2015 and is successfully providing Direct-To-Home television service in Brazil.
