Crashed Drone Recovered Out Of The Atlantic Ocean

RQ-4 Global Hawk Went Down Off The Coast Of Spain In Late June

A U.S. Air Force RQ-4 Global Hawk that went down off the coast of Spain in June has been recovered from the Atlantic Ocean. The announcement by the U.S. military follows two months of silence from officials concerning the accident.

The drone went down June 26th in the Gulf of Cadiz near the U.S. Navy's base in Rota, Spain, according to USNI News. It was recovered fairly quickly and taken to Naval Station Rota after being pulled from the ocean floor. Photos obtained by USNI show damage to the engine cowling and rear section of the aircraft. The U.S. Air Combat Command told USNI that the cause of the accident is under investigation.

This is the second time in a year that the USAF has lost one of its Global Hawks, which cost taxpayers about $123 million each.
