Airborne 02.11.22: Cessna 182T Returns, Boeing Pilot, Iran Boneyard

Also: Mars Ascent Vehicle Contract, KC-390 Order Slashed, 40 Starlink Satellites Lost, Jaunt Air Mobility

There's good news for would-be Cessna buyers dog-earing the classifieds in search of the perfect Skylane 182T - It's back in production for the first time in over 5 years.

The high-wing, utilitarian Skylane has long been a favorite of the Cessna lineup, and its newest guise adds all the modern flight deck accouterments with the power boost of a 235hp Turbocharged flat-six. The 182 has a storied history with the company, despite its production line containing a few fits and starts since its initial release in 1956. Mark Forkner has the good fortune to see a couple of his charges dismissed as he moves towards trial for his part in the Boeing 737 Max debacle. He stands accused of withholding information from the FAA's Aircraft Evaluation Group regarding the systems on the airplane, ostensibly in an effort to maintain the plane's development timetable. The dismissed charges pertained to allegations that Forkner defrauded the FAA by making and using materially false writing concerning an aircraft part in violation of federal law. A picture making the rounds from a recent flyby of Earth survey satellites has exposed the state of the Iranian civil air fleet. A stack of up aircraft of various vintages lie dormant at the Mehrabad International Airport, haphazardly placed together within close walking distance of the warehouses and hangars nearby. Many of Iran's aircraft have been left high and dry under international sanctions, with a significant portion of the airline fleet in-country using planes that were purchased in more western-friendly times. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
