Missouri Governor Plans To Sell One Of Two Airplanes

State House Of Representatives Considering Sale Of 1999 Beech King Air C90

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens (R) is planning to divest the state of one of its two fixed-wing aircraft.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the proposed sale of the 1999 Beechcraft King Air C90 is contained in the current budget proposal under consideration in the State House of Representatives.

The spending proposal for the Department of Public Safety calls for a reduction of aircraft maintenance costs of $37,000 per year due to the sale of the aircraft. Rep. Kathie Conway, (R-St. Charles) said the sale was approved by the new director of the department Col. Sandy Karsten shortly after she was sworn into to office. Conway said Karsten told her that the state "really did not have the need for the plane."

It is not clear how the state would go about selling the aircraft, or how much it would bring on the open market. A similar aircraft was sold by the State of Illinois in 2015 for $1.7 million, according to the report.
