Ibis to Employ Chelton Cockpit

Ae270 Incorporates State-of-the-Art Avionics

Ibis Aerospace has selected Chelton Flight Systems to provide primary flight and navigation instrumentation for its Ae270 Propjet. The selected avionics suite includes the FAA-certified FlightLogic Synthetic Vision dual screen EFIS system from Chelton. The FlightLogic system will be delivered as standard equipment on first deliveries of the Ae270 executive configured Spirit aircraft.

The Chelton FlightLogic Synthetic Vision EFIS combines advanced HUD symbology with real-time forward-looking 3-D terrain. This allows virtual vision of surrounding terrain and aircraft. Plus, the FlightLogic Highway-In-The-Sky (HITS) technology creates a virtual 3-D tunnel for instrument flying. The system also satisfies the FAA’s Terrain Awareness and Warning (TAWS) mandate. With the EFIS system installed, the Ae270 will deliver enhanced situational awareness, unprecedented safety, and dramatically reduced pilot workload.

In addition to the EFIS displays, Ibis has selected SAM (System of Avionics Modules) to control a variety of aircraft systems. The unique SAM avionics provide automated electronic monitoring and control of flight systems and pilot comfort systems including de-icing, fuel, trim, load factor, and electrical operations. SAM is developed and manufactured by UNIS of Brno, Czech Republic. UNIS has been a provider of sophisticated process control systems for power engineering and petrochemical industries for more than 12 years.

Jeff Conrad, Ibis VP of Marketing, commented, "The Ae270 is truly an aircraft designed to provide state-of-the-art technology to today’s operators. The Chelton FlightLogic system is the most impressive virtual VFR cockpit available. In conjunction with the SAM, the pilot’s job is highly automated making navigation and aircraft control a real pleasure."

The Ae270 Propjet is a large-cabin, pressurized aircraft designed to carry up to ten people (two crew plus eight passengers). It will cover stage lengths of up to 1,610 nautical miles with fuel reserves. The Ae270 can also be configured for bulk cargo. As a six to seven passenger executive transport it provides ease of operation, safety, economy and comfort only available in larger, more expensive aircraft. The Ae270 Propjet is redefining mission capability and economics of general aviation aircraft for today’s travel needs.

The company says that FAA certification of the Ae270 is scheduled at the end of 2003, and that first deliveries will take place in the first quarter of 2004. The Ae270 is being certified for FAR 23 single pilot operation and will be eligible for FAR Part 135 operation.
