For Those Debating a Build of Their Own, there's Nothing Better than Free Lessons!
Every year, Sun 'n Fun is home to some of the most cost-effective, convenient ways to develop aircraft building skills: Free hands-on workshops that cover all the bases needed to begin taking to the skies.
A quick stroll through workshop lane shows all the different specialties on offer: Classes include fabric covering, engine building, MIG/TIG welding, rib stitching, cable swaging, composites, riveting, and sheet metal working. Each offers attendees a great chance to get their hands dirty with actual aircraft materials under the watchful, experienced eye of a veteran builder. Thanks to sponsors like Lincoln Electric and Poly-Fiber, would-be builders can hone their burgeoning skills with the calm, cool comfort of knowing their errors won't be wasting material from their own aircraft kit.
On day 3 of Sun 'n Fun, there was plenty of room up for grabs in most classes - a great chance for any attendee to grab themselves some priceless one on one tutoring. The workshops are, in Sun n' Fun's own words, a "bonus not only to the FAA Licensed, A&P and IA Technician, but to the Amateur Aircraft Builder as well. And...the best part, the event entrance fee covers all the training and knowledge gained during the experience!" Anyone familiar with the cost of hiring so many experienced builders would know that experience comes with a steep price tag, especially with bigger classes.
"The cost of these Workshops," they continue, "if paid for individually, would cost thousands of dollars, but SUN ‘n FUN provides all this for just the cost of admission."
