Blue Angels #5 Damaged By Bird Strike During Performance

Plane Made An Early Landing During Vero Beach Air Show In Florida

Blue Angels #5 suffered about $1 million in damage when it ingested a bird into its engine during a performance Saturday at the Vero Beach Air Show in Florida.

The TCPalm website reports that Catherine Caddel, the show's director of marketing, confirmed the incident to the media. The pilot landed the plane without incident.

The Navy brought in another F/A-18 Hornet for the Sunday show, which went off without a hitch.

Heavy rains soaked the show grounds Sunday, with a record 1.88 inches of rain falling in the area that morning. The previous record of 1.41 inches was set in 1954. But the weather cleared by air show time Sunday afternoon.
