Textron to Add Autothrottle to Citation M2 Gen 2

Augmentation to Commence Mid 2025

Textron Aviation will add autothrottles to its hot-selling Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 beginning in mid 2025.

The system, which optimizes engine power, simplifies flight-management, and increases overall operating efficiency, will reduce pilot workload and facilitate smoother, more predictable flight profiles, thereby improving the flight experience for aviators and passengers alike.

Textron Aviation senior vice-president of Sales and Flight Operations Lannie O’Bannion stated: "Adding Garmin Autothrottles into the Citation M2 Gen2 exemplifies Textron Aviation's ongoing commitment to product investment across our entire product lineup. With its intelligent automation and streamlined operation, the integration of autothrottles in the aircraft provides pilots added precision and efficiency.”

Fully-integrated with the Citation M2 Gen2’s G3000 avionics system, Garmin’s Autothrottle system streamlines operations from takeoff to landing by managing aircraft speed, engine performance, and power to allow host aircraft to seamlessly climb, descend, or maintain altitude. The system automatically manages engine thrust, optimizing airspeed and fuel efficiency and adjusting engine-power based on factors such as density-altitude, airspeed, and aircraft weight. By maintaining precise control over the antecedent parameters, the autothrottle system ensures more intuitive flying for pilots and smoother, safer travel for passengers. Moreover, autothrottle systems include features conducive to the prevention of exceedance conditions and provide alerts to pilots should any such deviations occur.

Powered by a pair of 1,965-lbf-thrust Williams FJ-44-1AP turbofan engines, the M2 Gen2 manages a maximum cruise-speed of 404-knots (0.60 Mach) and a range of 1,550 nautical miles. So motivated, the single-pilot-certified jet remains capable of operating from runways as short as 3,210 feet, from which it climbs to FL410 in a snappy 24-minutes.

Textron Aviation’s investment in the Citation M2 platform speaks to the marque’s focus on pilot and passenger comfort and productivity. The M2 Gen2 features premium interior styling, ambient accent lighting, illuminated cup-holders, and an optional, folding, side-facing seat that converts into additional cargo storage. In addition to luxury styling, the seven-passenger M2 Gen2 cabin lends itself to productivity by dint of wireless device charging and USB-A and USB-C ports at each cabin seat. Aware gear-pullers are also in need of love, Textron added three inches of additional legroom to the M2 Gen2’s right-seat position.

With more than five-thousand specimens delivered worldwide, Textron’s Cessna Citation family of business jet aircraft continues to lead the light jet segment. From the Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 to the upgraded efficiency and comfort of the CJ3+ to the versatile CJ4 Gen2, Textron Aviation’s Citation family of light business jets has evolved to offer a range of capabilities, systems, and options unmatched in its class.
