Aero-TV: Electric Power Systems; A Name to Remember

Powering Aviation’s Vanguard—from Utah

Founded in 2016 and headquartered in North Logan, Utah, Electric Power (EP) Systems has evolved into a top-tier provider of high-power, scalable powertrains certifiable for electrified aviation.

The company’ energy-storage systems, DC fast-charging stations, and electric propulsion products currently power flight-demonstrator vehicles the likes of NASA’s X-57, Bell’s Nexus, Aurora Flight Science’s Pegasus, Embraer’s Ipanema, Ampaire’s Eco Caravan, and Boeing’s CAV—all of which maintain [to date] perfect in-field safety records.

Boeing, Safran (previously SNECMA), and JetBlue have each invested considerable monies in EP Systems’ research into and continuing development of energy-storage and electric propulsion technologies. Presently, the company’s yearly production of battery systems exceeds two-Megawatt-hours. In 2023, EP Systems plans to bring a new 70,000-square-foot facility online—the annual production of which is projected to start at one-hundred megawatt-hours.

A single megawatt is equal to the power output of ten, mid-displacement automobile engines.

EP Systems’ stated mission of “Powering transportation’s electric renaissance by providing smarter, safer, more reliable, lighter, and certifiable batteries,” benefits a global customer base that includes NASA, the FAA, Boeing, Safran, Bell, Textron, Diamond Aircraft, Embraer, Aura Aero, VoltAero, Ampaire, and Supernal.

Principal among EP Systems’ products are its EPiC battery modules, which offer energy, power, and ultra-power iterations configurable to the electrical requirements and spatial-limitations of a wide variety of aircraft. The EPiC modules are designed to pass FAA RTCA DO-311A, venting category B, and can be split to fit specific vehicle architectures while maintaining their electrical connections.

EPiC modules feature integrated liquid cooling for proactive thermal regulation of an aircraft’s aggregate battery system, and are managed by EP Systems’ certifiable battery management system, which provides monitoring, detection, and communication features to ensure optimal battery system performance.

EP Systems has partnered with the FAA to certify batteries for general aviation aircraft, and is slated to complete its first TSO in early 2023.

Aero-TV is a production of the Internationally syndicated Aero-News Network. Seen worldwide by hundreds of thousands of aviators and aviation adherents, ANN's Aero-TV has produced over 5000 aviation and feature programs, including nearly 2000 episodes of our daily aviation news program, AIRBORNE UNLIMITED, currently hosted by Holland Lee. Now in its third decade of operation, parent company Aero-News Network, has the most aggressive and intensive editorial profile of any aviation news organization and has published nearly a half-million news and feature stories since its inception -- having pioneered the online 24/7 aviation new-media model that so many have emulated.
