Video Shows Jump Plane Nearly Colliding With Skydivers

Drogue Chute And Bridle Actually Hit By Airplane's Wing

A recently-released video shows a tandem skydive that almost went horribly wrong.

The jump occurred on October 14 of last year, according to the video, which was posted on YouTube by skydive instructor Forest Pullman. In the description of the video, Pullman writes "After an uneventful exit.... The pilot dove the airplane 180 degrees right at me and my tandem passenger. how we got so lucky?!?! Not sure."

In the video, Pullman and the the passenger are seen in freefall, and the plane passing overhead. But then the plane can be seen much closer to the pair, and Pullman stops the video so that the drogue chute and bridle can be seen over the wing ... then the plane passes below them.

Later, after Pullman gets a canopy deployed, the passenger can be seen smiling and laughing ... apparently not knowing just how close they came to being a statistic. Commenters on YouTube said that it appeared that it was the reserve canopy.

The jump ended without further incident. There was no report as to whether the pilot faced any disciplinary action.
