King Air Down In Texas, Ten Fatally Injured

Plane Went Down On Takeoff From Addison Airport

A Beechcraft King Air 350 went down on takeoff from the Addison, TX airport (KADS) Sunday, resulting in the fatal injury of all 10 people on board the airplane.

CNN reports that, according to KADS spokesman Ed Martelle, the plane impacted an empty hangar as it was departing the airport at about 9:00 a.m. local time. A post-impact fire ensued.

There were eight passengers and a crew of two on board the airplane at the time of the accident. None of those fatally injured have been identified.

The plane was departing Addison for St. Petersburg, FL, according to Martelle. Just after lifting off the runway, it veered left into the hangar. Two airplanes stored in the hangar were also damaged, according to the NTSB Chairman Board Chairman Bruce Landsberg, who held a news conference Sunday night.

Landsberg said that the plane had recently been sold, and no information was available about the new owners of the airplane.

USA Today reports that witness Dave Snell, who was preparing to fly from the airport with a friend, said the plane "didn't sound right" as it was on its takeoff roll. He said it sounded like the plane was not at full power. Witness Peter Drake said he watched the airplane climb to about 200 feet and then begin to lose altitude, roll over and come "straight down" into the hangar.

The NTSB is reviewing three videos of the accident.

Addison is about 15 miles north of Dallas.
