Among the vendors at AirVenture 2018 was EFX Applied Technology, which makes Interactive Personal Alert systems for use in areas where people might encounter unanticipated safety hazards.
Company founder Stan Ross told Aero-News that the company's technology saves lives by "alerting people to invisible dangers." Those can include jet engine intakes, spinning helicopter rotors, airplane propellers and other such hazards.
The Interactive Personal Alert System (IPAS) projects an animated laser display on the ground around danger areas when it is activated.
In the commercial aviation industry, Ross says personal injuries account for more than 243,000 injuries and cost commercial operators more than $10 billion every year. But he said that the system is equally at home on a general aviation ramp where mechanics may be working on an airplane with the engine running.
The company is a startup, according to Ross. They are working to gauge and build interest in the aviation and other markets.
