Virtual High School Offers Opportunity To Train For PPL

Excel High School Partners WIth Pilot Institute

Excel High School has partnered with Pilot Institute to offer private pilot and drone pilot training to its students, giving them an early chance for success. The online high school is regionally and nationally accredited from its base location in Minnesota.

Students will receive two credits upon completion and take the course over four semesters. The program is designed to familiarize students with the knowledge required to pass the FAA’s written exam.

“We’re very excited to offer our new pilot and drone pilot training course. As a pilot myself, I realize the desperate need the nation has for properly trained pilots”, says Rod Clarkson, CEO of Excel High School. “Instead of memorization, our pilot training course aims to bring flight to life for our students by teaching the ‘WHY’ behind flight concepts.”

The course is entirely online and available to students worldwide. The format is in short lecture videos, which are possible to rewatch as many times as needed. Students are advised to start their flight training while taking the course, which includes over 800 practice questions and links to FAA publications.

The course is divided into 5 parts:

  1. Introduction to flight training, aircraft structure, aircraft systems, and flight instruments.
  2. Basic Aerodynamics, Aerodynamic Forces, Weight & Balance, and Performance & Limitations.
  3. Regulation, Inspections & Documents, Aeromedical Factors, and Aeronautical Decision Making.
  4. Weather Theory, Weather Services, Airport Operations, and Radio Communications.
  5. Airspace, Charts, Navigation, Flight Computer & Cross-Country Planning.
