Annual Losses To Airlines From Strikes Estimated At $1.2
Billion
Niagara Falls will host the 2011 Bird Strike North America
Conference September 12-15 at the Marriott Gateway on the Falls.
The event, organized by The Bird Strike Association of Canada and
The Bird Strike Committee USA, brings together aviation and
wildlife professionals from all over the world dedicated to the
understanding and prevention of bird strikes.
This year’s program includes paper and poster
presentations, several exhibits and the opportunity to network with
associates. Accipiter Radar will be showcasing its 3D avian radar
which is deployed at several civil airports and military airfields
to help reduce bird strike risk.
Bird aircraft collisions have been a safety concern for aviation
since the Wright Brothers. The story of the landing of US Flight
1549 in the Hudson River in January of 2009 drew public attention
to the issue. Recent estimates indicate that bird strikes cost
commercial aviation over $1.2 billion worldwide annually.
Gary Searing, Executive Director of the Bird Strike Association
of Canada says of next week's conference, "We have a great history
to build on and expect that the conference in Niagara Falls,
Ontario, Canada will continue in the tradition of informative
talks, great networking opportunities, key vendor exhibits at the
conference, good food, a sponsored field trip and fun.
So...register now online as I am very much looking forward to
seeing you at the conference."
