Canadian Hunters Fined For Shooting At Coyotes From A Helicopter

Two Convicted Of Violating Saskatchewan Wildlife Regulations

Two hunters charges with firing at coyotes from a flying helicopter have been hit with fines totaling $21,000 (Canadian) after being convicted under Saskatchewan's wildlife regulations.

The two are Erick and Jan Alsager of Maidstone, according to Canadian Television. The incident occurred in January of last year, and the two were caught following a tip made to the province's "Turn in Poachers" line. Someone reported that shots were being fired from a helicopter southwest of Maidstone.

Conservation officers from Lloydminster investigating the report determined that the Alsagers were firing on coyotes on the ground from the airborne helo.

Along with the fines, Jan Alsager has lost his hunting privileges for two years, while Erick is banned from hunting for one year. Erick was also found guilty of obstructing a police officer.
