Flight Diverts After Fight Breaks Out Between Family Members

JetBlue Apparently NOT The Airline Of Brotherly Love

A failed attempt to sneak a quick smoke inside a airplane lavatory appears to have led to the diversion of a JetBlue flight between Boston and Fort Lauderdale on Saturday.

CNN reports Flight 455 was supposed to take off from Boston at 1 pm, but didn't actually leave the gate until 3:11 pm. Once the Embraer ERJ-190 was airborne, a male passenger allegedly went to the lav, and sneaked a quick cigarette.

What happened next isn't quite clear. It appears the man was able to smoke without tipping off cabin personnel... but when he returned to his seat, his brother apparently became angry that his sibling had smoked on the airliner.

Chaos ensued... and by the time it was over, one of the men had been beaten to a pulp. "I saw the guy holding his head with the blood coming out," passenger Mike Rocha told WFOR.

The flight diverted to Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, where one of the men -- it's not clear which one -- was taken into custody. Passengers -- already late in arriving at FLL -- were further delayed by FBI personnel, who spent two hours interviewing other passengers.

We presume those passengers were then able to call their friends and families awaiting their much-delayed arrival to FLL. We also imagine those conversations began along the lines of "well, you're not gonna believe THIS..."
