AUVSI has commented on the controversial FAA Remote NPRM.
AUVSI's suggested the prioritizing compliant operators when processing applications for those wishing to fly drones either subject to waiver under Part 107.205 or Part 135 exemption for on-demand operations; increasing airspace access for voluntarily compliant operators; or offering financial rebates for manufacturers or reimbursement for the knowledge exam taken by aspiring commercial drone pilots that have successfully completed a recognized practical training course that adheres to the remote ID standards. UAVOS and its partner ISR Unmanned Technology will conduct search and rescue maritime missions using their joint ISR350-5 unmanned helicopter. The ISR350-5 UAS will perform rescue tasks, including dropping a life jacket into the water. In preparation for these exercises, UAVOS has modified the lifejacket by fitting it with a water anchor. The demonstration flights will seek to prove the advantages of using an unmanned helicopter for maritime patrolling, especially when the aircraft is equipped
with multiple sensors. The U.S. Air Force has decided to end its acquisition of MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aircraft in Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 rather than gradually winding down the program. The Air Force revealed in its FY2021 that it will buy its last 24 Reapers this year, which cuts the total acquisition of the aircraft to 337 units. The final Block 5 drones will be delivered in 2023 and 2024. The Air Force believes that the MQ-9 can no longer be effective against new air defenses and aircraft developed by countries like Russia and China.
