Israeli Paraglider Lands In Minefield

Rescued By Helicopter

An Israeli man flying his paraglider Saturday got more than he bargained for, after crashing near the border with Syria.

The unidentified man took off from a peak in the Golan Heights, and drifted east towards the Syrian and Jordanian borders. As if that wasn't bad enough... the man then landed hard after a possible 'chute malfunction -- sending him to the ground, and severly injuring his legs.

But wait, there's more... for if all that wasn't bad enough... the man had come down right in the heart of a minefield.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending... as Reuters reports he was rescued several hours later by helicopter, and taken to a hospital.

Despite a somewhat less-than-welcoming environment, paragliding is a popular sport in the Golan, where jumpers enjoy several steep mountains providing great launch points. As this story demonstrates, however, all that goes up must come down... where the accomodations aren't always quite as nice.
