Severe Midwest Storm Damages Three Hangers In Dubuque

Several Planes Damaged As Well, One Hangar Leveled

A severe thunderstorm that ripped across Iowa's Dubuque Regional Airport (KDBQ) Thursday leveled one hanger and tore at two others, leaving several damaged airplanes in its wake.

Airport officials said 13 to 15 GA airplanes were damaged by the windstorm and debris. At one point, the control tower recorded wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, which caused one hangar to collapse.

Dubuque Regional Airport manager Todd Dalsing said the oldest hangar on the airport was the most heavily damaged, according to television station KCRG. That hangar had been built between 45 and 50 years ago, he said, making it the oldest structure on the airport property.

Dalsing said many of the planes would likely be unsalvageable. "In my seventeen years here I have never seen damage to this extent," he told the station.
