Drone Crowdfunding Campaign Called Deceptive By Industry Blog

Claims Videos Used To Solicit Backers Are Not What They Appear

A crowdfunding campaign being used by Kudrone to solicit backing for a new camera drone do not provide an accurate representation of the aircraft's capabilities, according to one drone blog.

The blog Droningon.co reports that Kudrone has raised over $1.2 million from north of 9.700 customers on Indiegogo, but the videos posted on the site from the company's YouTube channel do not provide any examples of in-flight footage captured from the small camera drone. In addition, the company says the videos were captured using the Kudrone camera, but DroningOn says its analysis shows that to also not be true.

The blogger writing the post says that the latest videos posted earlier this month clearly show the drone is not flying when the footage is captured. Rather, he says, the camera itself is being held.

The blogger, identified only as "ash@droningon.co", also says that the footage is not shot at 2.7k despite being labeled as such in the title of the video. The footage is actually shot at 1080p, according to the blog.

The YouTube comments have been disabled for the videos, according to the blog.

The blog owner says he first became suspicious of the videos when one was released in mid-March claiming to have been captured by the drone, but featured full stereo sound. That would have been impossible for a drone which does not incorporate a microphone in conjunction with its camera.
