Airbus Can't Keep Up With A380 Demand

Executive Says He Could Sell More If Only Airbus Could Produce More

Airbus can't keep up with demand for its new Super-Jumbo jet, the A380.

That's the word from Commercial Aircraft Sales Director John Leahy. “I could sell another 30 A380s between now and 2010 if we had the production capacity,” he said, quoted by the French news agency, AFP.

So far, Airbus has 149 firm orders for the A380, which first flew earlier this year. The company also ten options on the books.

Singapore Airlines will receive the first A380 next year, but production has been delayed because of several concerns. The delays, in fact, have spurred some airline executives to point at their Airbus contracts and promise they'll exact penalty payments from the European aircraft manufacturer.

Another possible delay could come as the FAA conducts a safety review of the A380. The agency could recommend greater separation between the super-jumbo and its smaller cousins because of wake turbulence concerns.
