Pilot Survives As Cargo Plane Hits Manchester, NH Wal-Mart

We'll Say It... 'Clean-Up On Aisle Nine!'

The pilot of an Embraer 110 Bandeirante turboprop (file photo of type, below) received only minor injuries after the plane crashed into the garden department of a Manchester, NH Wal-Mart store Tuesday morning. No one was injured inside the store, which had only been open for 20 minutes when the accident occurred.

"I just saw a huge ball of smoke go up," said witness Maria Kosmakata to the Associated Press.

The cargo plane, registered to Vermont-based AirNow, was reportedly hauling cargo for UPS when it went down shortly after takeoff from Manchester Airport.

Pilot Paul Seyler-Schmidt was helped away from the wreckage by workers from a nearby car dealership and was taken to a hospital. His condition is listed as serious, but stable.

"Reports are that he's conscious, that he knows what's going on, that he's asked for his wife," said AirNow's Robin Outwater. "He seems to be doing just fine."
