Rutan Steps Down From Top Spot At Scaled Composites

Doug Shane Named President of Scaled Composites

Scaled Composites LLC has disclosed to ANN that that Douglas B. Shane has been appointed President and will assume responsibility for day-to-day operations of the company. Company founder Burt Rutan has been named Chief Technology Officer and Chairman Emeritus in a move that will allow him to focus on the company’s creative and entrepreneurial strengths.

“I suggested this change to our organizational structure because I want to focus on developing our talented, innovative team and ensuring we continue to provide our customers the creative technical approaches that only Scaled offers,” said Rutan (pictured below).

“I am successfully recovering from about 8 months of significant heart health challenges, and with this move look forward to many more years of fun here at Scaled.”

Doug Shane was previously Vice President. He joined Scaled as a founding member in 1982 and since 1989 has been responsible for business development, contracts, and proposals, as well as the Company’s flight test operations.

Scaled Composites is an aerospace and specialty composites development company located in Mojave, Calif., with broad experience in air vehicle design, tooling, and manufacturing, specialty composite structure design, analysis and fabrication, and developmental flight test.
