While at eFest 2015 ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, visited the headquarters of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and had the opportunity to sit down in a conversation with Dave Matthewson, the Executive Director of the AMA. In this video, we learn about the AMA, its past, present and future, and the role it plays in what modelers referred to as, “full scale aviation.” AMA is a member of the Airborne Partnership Initiative.
While all full-scale aviation enthusiasts are familiar with organizations like the AOPA, and the EAA, which represents a multitude of aviation interests, it’s important to understand the role that the AMA also plays in the big picture of aviation. With 175,000 members and 24 chartered clubs, they present a strong and unified voice.
It’s probably fair to say that many full-scale aviators built their interest in the art and science of aviation on the foundation of modeling. As this informative conversation unfolds, viewers will be treated with a myriad of action scenes of model aircraft in operation. The extent to which model aviation has progressed is stunning.
Anyone who has an interest in any form of aviation needs to watch this video to see how the next generation of aviation enthusiasts, engineers, and aeronautical scientists may very well get their start. We think you’ll be surprised by what you hear and see.
