A couple about to let their horses out to pasture in rural Michigan Saturday morning were surprised when they heard a crash shortly before nine. The cause of the noise was something that looked a lot like a satellite that had fallen to Earth. As it turns out, the "satellite" was a device belonging to communications company Samsung. The so-called "SpaceSelfie" balloon is intended to allow Samsung's customers to get their pictures into space. Tecnam had a successful showing at NBAA-BACE, signing contracts for 11 P2012 Traveller airplanes during the show. Tecnam signed contracts with Naseer Ismail, CEO of TAMIFIELD (Pty) from South Africa for six P2012’s with the option of an additional twelve. Capt. Alfredo Andres Ortiz Osoria, CEO of Charter Express – SAS – from Columbia, ordered five P2012’s with the option of an additional five. Fire destroyed the only hangar at Monmouth (IL) Municipal Airport (C66) Friday. Eight airplanes stored in the hangar were destroyed, while two others were damaged in the blaze. C66 is the oldest operational airport in the state of Illinois. The Monmouth Fire Department said that it received a report of smoke coming from the hangar shortly before 0600 local time Friday morning. The smoke was coming from the hangar and main office. On arrival at the airport, the department found that the hangar had become fully involved. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
