AMA Drone Report 08.22.19: AMA Reg Update, FAA Stakeholder Input, SkyPixel-DJI

Also: AIR PIX Selfie Drone, Another NIMBY City, Drone Food Delivery, 'Monumental' Drone LIDAR Map

While the Federal regulatory scene is getting a LOT of attention from AMA theses days, they remind us that they haven’t state and local regulatory issues go ignored. Many of the state legislative sessions have come to an end for the current cycle.

This year, we continued to see many UAS-related proposals. However, as legislators begin to have a better understanding about the importance of our long-standing hobby, most of these bills were not overly concerning. Depending on the proposed restrictions or requirements, the AMA Government Affairs team has determined a level of engagement... The FAA has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking to work with stakeholders on the administration of a new aeronautical knowledge test for recreational drone operators. Section 349 of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 requires new conditions to operate recreational small UAS. Many drones can be flown today with minimal training or knowledge of aviation rules or safety practices. The new statute is an opportunity to educate recreational flyers on UAS safety and to bring new flyers into the existing aviation safety culture. DJI and SkyPixel have announced the first short film contest inviting users to submit their cinematic stories shot with camera and gimbal products. The 2019 SkyPixel Short Film Contest will accept entries from August 15, 2019 to October 14, 2019, welcoming submissions from all types of creators from hobbyists to social media users and professional videographers around the globe. The 2019 SkyPixel Short Film Contest consists of three storytelling categories-'Big Moments Start Small,' 'Make Your Move' and 'Adventure Starts With You.' There is no restriction on the type or brand of equipments participants use, and they can submit as many videos as they wish. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
