AD NUMBER: 2018-16-01

PRODUCT: Certain B/E Aerospace Fischer GmbH Attendant Seats NG and Pilot Seats 120/335.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY:  This AD requires removing and replacing the energy absorber (EA) assemblies on affected pilot seats and the removing and replacing affected attendant seats.

This AD was prompted by the discovery that rivets with insufficient strength were used during the manufacture of EA assemblies installed on certain seats.

DATES: This AD is effective August 31, 2018. Comments must be received by October 1, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that there are currently no seats on aircraft of U.S. Registry. If an aircraft so equipped were to be registered in the U.S., the cost of compliance is estimated as follows:

  • Inspect to determine if re-work has been accomplished: $85 for one hour labor.
  • Replace EA assembly: Labor - $170. Parts - $20,000. Total cost per seat $20,170
  • Remove and replace attendant seat: Labor - $170. Parts - $10,000. Total cost per seat $10,170.
