Kuwait To Investigate Airbus Purchases

Follows Planemaker's Agreement With The U.S., U.K. And France Concerning Alleged Corruption

The Kuwaiti parliament has established a committee to investigate whether the government's purchase of Airbus aircraft involved alleged corruption.

Reuters reports that Kuwait is one of several governments to look into the acquisition of Airbus aircraft after the planemaker reached a $4 billion settlement with the United States, Britain and France over allegations of bribery and corruption going back more than 10 years.

The three-member committee is charged with reviewing Airbus orders and submit findings to the National Assembly within three months, according to a state-run news agency.

The investigation will focus on alleged bribes that may have been paid in an effort to secure Airbus orders that involve Kuwaiti parties.

The parliament also asked its finance ministry to look at recent aircraft buys involving state-owned Kuwait Airways.

Airbus did not comment for the Reuters report.
