Mooney appears to be up and operating again in Kerrville, TX, as cars filled the parking this week following a furlough that lasted about a month. Company rep Devan Burns said that the furlough was lifted and "Mooney has resumed operations in Kerrville.
At this time, there are negotiations with an additional investor." Mooney has been located in Kerrville since 1953. But sales have fallen to only about 20 airplanes a year since 2008, and there have been 11 owners and multiple bankruptcies in the company's history. If you're planning a trip to Mexico in your personal airplane or via charter, you may find yourself and your airplane to be the focus of heightened scrutiny. The reorganized Mexican civil aviation authority announced November 19 that it would be conducting ramp checks on every foreign aircraft operating under part 91 or part 135 at every airport in Mexico. The government sent out a directive to local handling agents announcing the change, though it is not clear when the new policy would be fully implemented. In October, the DGAC became the Civil Aviation Federal Agency (AFAC). This announcement of increased ramp checks is one of their first directives. A former RAF pilot who was flying a Hawker Hunter aircraft during the 2015 Shoreham
Airshow which went down during a maneuver and impacted a highway has been acquitted by a jury on charges of manslaughter by gross negligence. Andrew Hill had been charged in the deaths of 11 people when his plane went down near the airport. Several others on the ground were injured. Hill was also seriously injured, but survived when he was ejected from the airplane during the accident. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
