Two Arrested In Attempted Prison Drone Delivery

Drugs, Weapons, Phones Confiscated From The Drone Operators

Two men have been arrested in South Carolina for attempting to smuggle contraband into a medium-security prison using a drone.

Authorities told the Associated Press that Charles Everett Adams and Justin Marvin Canady have been arrested and face multiple charges. The men were found at about 0300 Wednesday on prison-owned property in Lancaster County, SC., and fled the scene when approached by police.

When they were apprehended, they were in possession of a drone, marijuana, knives and cellphones. They have been charged with attempting to provide contraband to inmates and drug possession. There is also a pending federal drug possession charge in Lancaster County, according to the report.

This is the second time someone has tried to use a drone to smuggle contraband into a prison in South Carolina. One person who attempted such a flight is now serving a 15-year sentence after authorities found a drone that had crashed outside a maximum-security prison in 2014.

A bill to make flying drones near prisons illegal in South Carolina has passed the state Senate, but stalled in the state House.
