Bombardier Skyjet Announces Helicopter-Jet Package

Departure via Long Island Can Save 45 Minutes Due to Air Traffic Delays at Teterboro

It’s a typical scene for the well-heeled traveler (and you know who you are... and why you don't work for ANN...): You drive to Teterboro Airport on a Friday afternoon and board your private Learjet, looking forward to getting a jump on the weekend while avoiding the crowds and hassles of commercial airline travel.

The hitch? Every other well-heeled traveler in New York has the same idea, and you find yourself waiting 45 minutes to get off the ground, losing precious time for rest and relaxation.

Bombardier Skyjet thinks it has the answer to avoiding heavy air traffic at the region’s busiest general aviation facility: Go to Long Island instead, and in style. Bombardier Skyjet today announced a packaged private helicopter-business jet service from any of three heliport locations in Manhattan to Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, N.Y., where you can then board your private jet and get to your destination without delay.

Bombardier Skyjet, which offers both on-demand charter jet travel and the Premier Fleet jet card program for frequent private jet travelers, says the cost of the 18-minute, six-passenger helicopter trip from Manhattan to Long Island’s Republic – at about $1,300 – can be offset by additional flight time for Teterboro departures that result from being vectored around heavy air traffic. Plus, Teterboro has slightly higher landing fees and the helicopter trip eliminates the cost of limo service or other ground transportation from Manhattan. Equally important, according to Bombardier Skyjet, gate holds and taxi delays at Republic Airport are virtually nonexistent, even during peak travel times, whereas waits of 45 minutes are typical at Teterboro.

The company also is making the private helicopter-jet package  available to its Premier Fleet jet card members who can use a simple conversion ratio to trade some of their “jet hours” for time on a six-passenger helicopter. Bombardier Skyjet is also offering helicopter service from Manhattan to any location in the Greater New York Area.

Private helicopter service to East Farmingdale’s Republic Airport (FRG), located along the Route 110 corridor on Long Island, is available from three points in New York City: Downtown Manhattan Heliport at Pier 6/111 Wall Street (JRB), West 30th Street Heliport (JRA) and East 34th Street Heliport (6N5). All helicopters booked through Bombardier Skyjet are twin-engine aircraft that are piloted by two pilots, and all aircraft and operators meet Bombardier Skyjet’s stringent quality requirements.

“We looked at all the available options for our customers to avoid the crowds at Teterboro this summer, and found Farmingdale to be a convenient solution that can save customers quite a bit of time,” said Alexandre Monnier, general manager of Bombardier Skyjet. “It’s a great option for our on-demand, pay-as-you-go charter customers in the New York Area and we also wanted to offer it seamlessly to our Premier Fleet jet card members.”

“It’s a real solution to the congested air traffic at Teterboro, and one that many experienced private jet travelers don’t know about,” said Monnier. “It’s our job at Bombardier Skyjet to find the best available private travel options for our customers and let them make choices that best fit their needs and wishes,” he commented.

“Teterboro Airport is an excellent, convenient, general aviation facility, and we will continue to service many of our customers there,” Monnier added. “However, a quick hop from Manhattan to Republic Airport at Farmingdale may be a better choice for some people, and we’ve made that an easy option for their private travel plans this summer.”
